A Day in the Life of a Year 12 Student
"Year 12 is a crucial year, balancing academics, extracurriculars, and personal responsibilities. Each day brings challenges and opportunities for growth.
My morning begins with double History, where we are currently studying Communist China in preparation for an upcoming essay. Throughout the course, we will enjoy also studying Russia and the Tudors with our expert teacher, Mr. Gillman.
After History, I attend tutor time where, working with my tutor and fellow students, we focus on developing our academic literacy by reading and discussing various articles. This work really helps me to develop my broader knowledge, and understanding, supporting my work across all of my subjects by helping to connect concepts and ideas.
Following my tutorial, I head off to my role as a Literacy Leader, helping Year 7 students build confidence in their reading. I enjoy this activity, which is crucial to my younger colleague's ability to access the curriculum and to perform highly in their studies.
Being able to study independently is an important skill, for any student, and in the 6th Form we have independent study built into our timetable. Today I use this time to complete work for my A Level in Government & Politics, as well as preparing for the Model United Nation Conference, by drafting notes and talking points to support my presentation at the event.
Time for another lessons soon arrives - Economics - in which we explore aggregate demand, focusing on consumer spending and its economic impact, analysing factors influencing consumption.
Fina;;y, lunchtime arrives, a chance to refuel and unwind with friends, recharging for the rest of the day. Although, I also use this time as an opportunity to read ahead to ensure I am up to speed with my upcoming learning.
My day ends, with Model UN, during which I receive feedback on position paper, to ensure they are ready to submit for the conference, as well as brushing up on my debating skills.
Year 12 is busy, exciting, and rewarding. It's definitely helping me to prepare for the future and to grow!"
