Construction Youth Trust Mentoring

Last year, an inspiring group of Year 10 and Year 12 students took part in the Construction Youth Trust (CYT) mentoring program, which aimed to provide them with invaluable insights into the world of work and equip them with the skills needed to thrive. The program, delivered by CYT on a fortnightly basis, encompassed a range of workshops covering essential topics such as CV writing, interview skills masterclasses, and mock assessment centres.

One of the program's highlights was the opportunity for students to engage with employers and gain first-hand experience of the construction industry. Visits to construction sites, facilitated by industry leaders like the MACE Group and Skanska, allowed students to witness the real-world applications of their newfound knowledge.

By immersing themselves in these activities, the students developed a realistic understanding of the expectations and requirements of the workplace. They learned about the skills sought by employers and gained insights into how to position themselves for success in their future careers.

Looking ahead, the coaching program will continue in Year 11 and Year 13, providing even more opportunities for our young participants. These upcoming stages will include masterclasses focused on employability development, as well as comprehensive support for apprenticeship, college, and job applications.
